Accommodations

• Forward is a V berth with insert, extensive storage, and folding privacy door. The main salon settee has a beautiful centerline folding table. The port side settee converts into a double berth. Aft to port is a large head with shower (never used), sliding sink unit, and shower sump with overboard pump; to starboard is a large fully lined hanging locker. There is considerable storage beneath the settees and the full length cabinets have fitted glass and dishware slots behind sliding doors. Two opening hatches with screens on roof and two vents; curtains on all windows. The entire interior is tigerwood mahogany with all grains matched: The builders were previously fine furniture manufacturers in Denmark. There are fitted, weatherproof, removable carpets throughout the cabin, pilothouse, and cockpit.
•  Aft of the salon one step up is the pilothouse, with wheel steering and seat (fridge underneath) to starboard, galley to port with large storage drawers and cabinets beneath. There is voluminous storage in the pilothouse footwell and under the floor where the battery box and water system are located.
• The pilothouse has a large opening hatch so one can steer standing up, instrument arch with all instruments visible as well from the cockpit, two cigarette outlets and night navigation light brackets.
• Instead of washer boards the aft board enclosure for the pilothouse slides down out of sight. There are opening lexan windows at the aft end of the pilothouse and a locking lexan window that lifts up to enclose the entire pilothouse.

Galley

• The galley is up in the pilothouse on the port side.
• It has a two-burner propane stove with new Trident sensor/alarm/solenoid system. Propane tank (10# aluminum) is in vented locker aft; new vent hose.
• There is a hot water system recently refurbished, New water heater, new accumulator, new pressure fresh water pump, and all new water valve system with great access for normal and winterizing use.
• Galley closes to form full sized navigation table or seat for mate; additional navigation areas at wheel, over hatchway to salon, and beside the galley – all newly refinished.
• There is a sliding serving board under the helm seat (i.e., above the Norcold fridge) to starboard. 

Electronics

• Centerline Danforth compass
• Raymarine depth sounder.
• NASA fluxgate compass and apparent wind instruments. New Apparent Instrument and Cable available for installation.
• Icom VHF Radio
• Volvo engine instrumentation
• Simrad autopilot for tiller with wired remote connection in the pilothouse.
• Instrument arch is clearly visible from cockpit as well as in pilothouse.
• All compasses professionally swung.

Electrical and Mechanical:

• Two (2) Willard group 31 batteries new April 2021. Trickle charged maintained all winter.
• New Blue Seas electrical panels and battery monitor
• AC charger unit
• New engine oil pressure and heat alarm
• Engine compartment automatic fire extinguisher system with helm light indicating proper working order (Halon replaced with CO₂)
• All gate valves removed and replaced with bronze seacocks
• Engine hour indicator
• New heavy duty Balmar engine alternator

• Spare anode installed 05.23
• All mast wiring replaced in 2003. New masthead and foredeck light.
• Quick-open impeller plate; all new water hoses
• Engine insulation added 2003, new hatch pulls.

• Recent fuel filler hose and vented loop replacements. New water pump 2011.
• Two blade prop.
• Engine consumes ⅜ gal./hour at 2000 rpm, speed 5 knots (hull speed approx. 6.5 knots).

Sails & Rigging

• Genoa (Approx 130˚) is excellent (new 2006)
• Mainsail in good condition with recent Dutchman reefing system
• Excellent spare 110 ˚genoa; all lines led aft through stoppers
• New backstay and toggles (2005)
• All new running rigging including two spare halyards and reef lines (2006)
• Two 2-speed Anderson winches fitted with snubbers and canvas covers
• Full canvas cockpit enclosure.
• Heavy winter cockpit cover
• Mainsail cover fitted for Dutchman and restitched last year.
• Stabilizing Sail for Anchoring.
• Spinnaker pole mounted on deck.

Deck

• Anchor roller and stopper; Delta 22# anchor mounted on a stainless steel bowsprit that was custom built and added in 2003, 10’ chain and 150’ of ¾” rode
• Spare Danforth anchor
• Stainless steel boarding ladder
• Removable MOB pole mounts on backstay
• Radar reflector, ensign and staff
• Varnished removable tiller
• Four new teak security handrails mounted on pilothouse roof.
• Hard rubber rubrail removed, cleaned, and rebedded; port side chain plate cover rebedded 2009.

Additional Information

• Boat was in fresh water (MN) until 2002, then two years in a brackish Chesapeake Bay river; it has been used less than three months per season and stored indoors with mast down in Maine since.
• Vessel was documented (previously Tryst, Juveli). The name Safina comes from a Berber/Arabic root meaning ‘light dancing on the surface of the water’.
• The bottom was professionally stripped, hand sanded, epoxied, and repainted in 2023 with Micron CSC. No blisters or osmosis. Bottom painted with Micron or equivalent ablative each season.

Additional recent upgrades:

• Helm seat recovered, new battery tie-down and box, new foam berth cushions, new clock mechanism, full cockpit cushions and covers, excellent warps and fenders, line snubbers, fire extinguishers, flares, two inclinometers, new barometer/hygrometer/thermometer and tide clock in pilothouse. Original manuals.
• Over $25K spent on upgrades since 2001: All bills available.
• These highly prized European cruisers rarely come to market: Only two others have been offered in the past twenty years in the US. Side-by-side tests published in British journals always give it top ranking.
• It has a long fin keel and canoe stern so it sails extremely well – tacking through 85 degrees
• One can easily see through the expansive pilothouse windows from the cockpit yet have total protection from sun and rain within the pilothouse.
• Production ceased in the late 1980s when this boat cost over $100,000; the LM 27 is now in limited production in Britain (as the Scanyacht 290) for over $100K, but without the large glass space of the LM 28.
• Previously a famous furniture maker, LM is now the world’s largest manufacturer of wind generating devices.  
• Safina is the featured boat reviewed in Good Old Boat, winter 2010 by an MIT-trained naval architect/engineer. The magazine placed a value on the boat of approximately $50,000.
